Davido Launches Electric Motorcycle Brand in Tanzania
Afrobeats megastar Davido is expanding his influence beyond music with the launch of his own line of electric motorcycles, known as e-BodaBoda, in partnership with Spiro. This new initiative aims to transform the transportation sector and uplift the Bodaboda riders who have helped spread his music across Africa.
Davido shared the news on his Instagram, expressing his gratitude to the Bodaboda riders, who he credits with helping spread his music across the continent. “These same Bodaboda riders who have been pushing my name and music across every city are now at the center of my vision. It’s time to give back,” he said.
With over 27 million motorcycles powering Africa’s workforce, and 80% of riders depending on bikes for their daily income, the project aims to empower these riders by offering them access to electric bikes, reducing emissions, and creating a cleaner future for transportation. Davido emphasized, “This is more than a deal; it’s a statement. It’s ownership, empowerment, and legacy in motion. Africa is not just catching up—we’re redefining what it means to lead.”
Spiro, the partner behind the project, already has over 22,000 electric bikes on the roads in countries like Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria. The introduction of e-BodaBoda to Tanzania adds to the growing list of countries benefiting from this sustainable transportation solution. Their innovative battery-swapping technology ensures riders can quickly exchange batteries at designated stations, eliminating long charging times and improving the efficiency of the service.
