Davido Reveals He Has Never Met Nicki Minaj Despite Collaborating Twice
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that he has never met U.S. rapper Nicki Minaj in person, despite working with her on two songs. The singer shared this surprising detail during a recent interview on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, where he discussed how their collaborations came to be.
“You know the crazy thing? I have never met her [Nicki Minaj]. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we linked was through DM,” Davido said, recalling how their connection started.
The Unavailable hitmaker explained that he first noticed Nicki following him on Instagram, which led him to send her a message. To his surprise, she responded the next morning. “I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the record, and two days later, she sent me her verse,” he added.
Their first collaboration resulted in Holy Ground, a track from Davido’s 2020 album A Better Time. While they had planned to shoot the music video in Los Angeles, it never happened because Nicki was pregnant at the time. However, their bond remained strong, and she later invited Davido to feature on her album Pink Friday 2, released last year.
Despite never meeting in person, Davido described Nicki as incredibly supportive, saying, “She’s always supportive. She’s amazing.”
