Dayo Amusa Shares Emotional Journey to Motherhood After Doctors Suggested Womb Removal

Popular Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has opened up about her harrowing journey to motherhood, revealing the challenges she endured, including three miscarriages and a recommendation from doctors to remove her womb.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, the actress shared her story, which began with a diagnosis of uterine myomatosis in 2015. This condition, characterized by the growth of non-cancerous tumors in the uterus, caused her immense pain and complications. Despite medical advice to undergo a hysterectomy, Amusa refused to give up on her dream of becoming a mother.

Amusa, who welcomed her daughter Oluwafirewamiri in the United States on November 18, 2024, reflected on the difficult decisions she faced. She wrote, “I never thought I would get to this moment, but GOD knew. For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a wife and mom. Having had 3 miscarriages, in 2015, I was diagnosed with uterine myomatosis, and some doctors recommended removing my womb due to the complications and discomfort I experienced every month during my menstrual cycle. I decided to fight and reject that option.”

Instead of opting for a hysterectomy, Amusa sought alternative treatments and traveled to the United Kingdom, where she underwent surgery to remove the tumors on February 14, 2015. However, her challenges did not end there. In 2016, she discovered one of her fallopian tubes was damaged, significantly reducing her chances of natural conception.

Her struggles continued in 2019 when an IVF attempt failed, leading to strain in her marriage. The situation worsened when her husband fathered a child with another woman, ultimately leading to the collapse of their relationship. Reflecting on this painful chapter, Amusa shared, “In 2016, myself and my then partner decided to try again as we were eager to welcome our first child together. Later, we discovered one of my tubes was broken, making natural conception almost impossible… My then partner was involved with another woman, unknown to me, which produced a baby boy. After so many ups and downs, the whole thing ended.”

The emotional toll of these experiences led Amusa into depression, causing her to withdraw from her career, family, and friends. She credited her mother for recognizing her deteriorating mental health and encouraging her to relocate to the United States in 2021 for a fresh start.

Today, Amusa celebrates her triumph, attributing her success to faith, resilience, and the support of loved ones. She described her journey as a testament to the power of perseverance and hope in the face of adversity.
