DJ Jimmy Jatt Shares His Inspiring Journey Through Kidney Disease and Blindness

Renowned Nigerian disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has opened up about his battle with chronic kidney disease, the life-altering experience of losing his sight, and undergoing a kidney transplant.

In a heartfelt interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, DJ Jimmy Jatt revealed that his health struggles began in 2020 after he lost his sight, requiring surgery to restore it. The challenges arose shortly after he decided to explore life outside Nigeria.

“Maybe I caused it for myself,” he shared. “In 2019, I decided to spend more time out of the country. I’ve lived all my life in Nigeria, especially Lagos, so I wanted to explore the world—Europe, America, everywhere.”

However, his plans were interrupted in 2020 by health complications and travel restrictions. After regaining his sight through surgery, he relocated to the U.S. to take a break, but there, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

“I was on dialysis for a while in the U.S. Eventually, I returned to Nigeria and underwent a kidney transplant,” he recounted.

Following the successful transplant in 2022, DJ Jimmy Jatt chose to maintain a low profile to focus on his recovery.

“After the transplant, I decided to be quiet for a while to recover properly. Once I was discharged, I left Nigeria again. While away, I continued DJing in America and Europe. But by December, I felt it was time to return home,” he explained.

Addressing misconceptions about kidney disease, he emphasized that lifestyle choices are not always the cause.

“Lifestyle is not always the cause of kidney ailments. I’ve never smoked, and I stopped drinking alcohol a long time ago. In my case, it was caused by diabetes,” he revealed.

DJ Jimmy Jatt’s resilience and openness about his health challenges have inspired fans and raised awareness about kidney disease. His journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of health advocacy and determination in the face of adversity.
