Dr. Fola David Aims to Break World Record with Largest Drawing by an Individual
Dr. Fola David, a doctor turned artist, has announced his ambitious plan to break the world record for the largest drawing by an individual. The project, titled “Unity in Diversity,” is set to commence on July 16 and will span six days at Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
Dr. David’s monumental artwork will cover over 850 square meters and will depict a detailed map of Nigeria, highlighting its numerous tribes through their distinctive attires, languages, art, and cultural essence. The project aims to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and promote national unity.
In the lead-up to the world record attempt, Dr. David will launch a preparatory phase called “Road to Record,” which will serve as his source of inspiration for the historic drawing. This phase will include a cultural odyssey, capturing a road trip across various Nigerian states. The experiences and visuals from this journey will form the foundation of the drawing and culminate in a documentary titled “Road to Record.”
The “Unity in Diversity” project is being executed in collaboration with the Tolaram Group, aiming to illuminate Nigeria’s vibrant cultural mosaic through an immersive experience that combines visual art, documentary filmmaking, and cultural celebrations.
Dr. David outlined the three phases of the project: the “Road to Record,” the world record drawing attempt, and the “RepYourTribe Carnival.” The carnival will celebrate Nigeria’s diverse cultures and invite every Nigerian to showcase their tribal heritage using the hashtag #repyourtribe on social media. The celebration will take place at Onikan Stadium alongside the creation of the world record drawing, creating a digital and physical extravaganza honoring Nigeria’s cultural tapestry.
As a speed painter, Dr. David is no stranger to large-scale art projects. He emphasized that “Unity in Diversity” aims to capture the hearts and stories of Nigerians, emphasizing the beauty of living together despite cultural differences.

The project has garnered support from esteemed partners including the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, the Nigerian Tourism Development Agency, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the National Gallery of Art, the Lagos State Government, and the National Troupe of Nigeria. Dr. David believes that this collaboration will ensure the project makes a lasting impact on the nation’s cultural landscape.
