Edo, Bayelsa Women Protest Herdsmen’s Menace, Block Highway
Vehicular movement was disrupted on Wednesday along the Uromi Road in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State as women trooped out in large numbers to protest killings by suspected herdsmen. The aggrieved women also protested the destruction of their farms and raping of their girls. However, the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Anselm Aidenojie, has called for calm, assuring the protesters that their grievances would get to the appropriate authority. The Ojuromi said “The activities of the criminal herdsmen are quite worrisome and disturbing. They kidnap our people, rape the women, main and wreck a lot of havoc. They don’t allow people to go to their farms anymore. Meanwhile, scores of women from Epie Atissa kingdoms in the Yenogoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa state, on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against the menace of herdsmen around their communities. One of them said “Enough is enough. The herdsmen should leave our farmlands. The state government should Protect us and our crops from herdsmen and their cows.”
