Edo Governor Obaseki Heads Nigerian Delegation to International Art Exhibition in Italy

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is set to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the prestigious 60th international art exhibition organized by La Biennale di Venezia in Italy.

Scheduled to take place in the Veneto region from April 16 to 18, the exhibition will see Governor Obaseki serving as the commissioner of the Nigerian pavilion.

A statement released by the state government highlighted Obaseki’s nomination by the federal government, citing Edo’s remarkable efforts in promoting Nigeria’s culture, arts, and heritage.

With Edo State and its capital city, Benin City, long-standing pillars of heritage and cultural artistic excellence in Nigeria, Governor Obaseki’s commitment to supporting arts and culture underscores his leadership’s dedication to preserving and celebrating the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

During the event, Governor Obaseki and the Nigerian delegation are expected to be received by the board of the museum of West African arts and Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto region, at the Nigerian pavilion.

This historic occasion marks the first time a sub-national entity is leading Nigeria’s delegation to such a prestigious international event. The Veneto region, renowned for its wealth and productivity, particularly welcomes people of African descent, making it an ideal platform for cultural exchange and collaboration.

In addition to showcasing Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage, Edo State aims to leverage the Veneto region’s development model, characterized by robust export-oriented entrepreneurship, to drive sociocultural and economic partnerships. Through the signing of a memorandum of understanding, the collaboration seeks to enhance the growth, development, and productivity of Edo State, fostering mutual benefits for both regions.
