EFCC Urges NYSC Members to Spearhead Anti-Corruption Efforts Nationwide
In a bid to bolster the fight against corruption in Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called upon members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to actively participate in combating this societal menace. Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, conveyed this message through Idris Isiyaku, the Head of Public Affairs at the Kano Zonal Command, during an address to Corps members of the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 at the NYSC orientation camp in Kano.
Olukoyede emphasized the crucial role that young Nigerians play in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship to counteract corruption and stimulate economic growth. He urged the youth to harness their creative abilities to generate ideas and initiatives that contribute to the nation’s development.
Highlighting the far-reaching consequences of corruption, Olukoyede underscored its detrimental impact on various facets of society, including unemployment, insecurity, poverty, and healthcare. He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address these challenges, attributing many of them to the misappropriation of resources by individuals entrusted with public office.
Speaking at the NYSC orientation camp in Oyo State, Olukayode, represented by Deputy Superintendent DSE Egbodofo Olumide, reiterated the importance of Corps members’ involvement in combating corruption within their respective communities. He stressed the significance of public awareness campaigns and mobilization efforts in curbing corrupt practices and fostering national development.
Olukayode also cautioned against the allure of internet crimes, affirming that such activities are unsustainable and detrimental to the nation’s progress. He urged Corps members to uphold integrity and reject all forms of economic and financial crimes, underscoring their role as future leaders responsible for shaping the country’s trajectory.
The EFCC Chairman’s message resonated across various states, including Kwara, Enugu, and Lagos, where similar calls were made to Corps members to champion the fight against corruption. The EFCC’s proactive engagement with young Nigerians underscores the importance of grassroots involvement in promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across all sectors of society.
