Falz Reveals He Was a Lawyer by Day and Rapper by Night
Nigerian rapper Falz has opened up about how he once led a double life, working as a lawyer by day and a rapper by night. Speaking on the Madam Joyce podcast, Falz shared the challenges he faced while trying to balance these two careers, especially in an industry that expected complete dedication to one profession.
In his interview, Falz revealed that being both a lawyer and a rapper came with its difficulties, as the legal profession has strict codes of conduct. He explained that there is an unspoken rule that lawyers should not engage in other activities outside of their legal duties. Despite this, he managed to juggle his legal practice with his passion for music, often having to switch between the two worlds.
Falz recalled one specific incident in court when his double life was exposed. “There was a time I was in court, and living a double life at the time as well. Lawyer by day, rapper by night,” he said. He described a moment when he was announcing his appearance in court, only for the judge to question him about his musical career. “When I announced my appearance, ‘With profound respect my lord, the name is Folarin the Falana, appearing for the plaintiff,’ and the judge lowered his glasses and said, ‘Counsel, are you not the one doing something else on the side?’”
This humorous but telling moment highlights the difficulties Falz faced in keeping his two careers separate. Despite the challenges, he reflected on how this duality helped shape his unique identity in both the legal and entertainment fields.
The rapper-turned-lawyer also emphasized the balancing act of keeping his passion for music alive while adhering to the professional demands of law. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of pursuing one’s passions while navigating societal and professional expectations. Today, Falz is known for his success in both music and entertainment, but his journey from lawyer to rapper continues to inspire those looking to follow unconventional paths.
