Fans React to High Prices of Asake’s Tour Merchandise: “We Can’t Afford This”

YBNL star Asake, known offstage as Ahmed Ololade, is causing a stir on social media after the prices of merchandise for his “Lungu Boy” world tour were revealed. The singer, who recently dropped his highly anticipated album featuring collaborations with artists like Travis Scott and Wizkid, has begun his tour, with fans eager to get their hands on official merch.

The merchandise, available through Empire Store, includes a fez cap priced at ₦128,800 and a T-shirt for ₦241,500. The high prices have sparked a wave of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with many Nigerians expressing frustration over the unaffordability, especially given the country’s current economic challenges.

Fans were quick to voice their concerns, with one user, @TheTifeFab, commenting, “Lungu Boy merchandise wey people for Lungu no fit afford,” pointing out the irony of the situation. Another user, @Bams_Jnr, added, “E no want make we active at all,” reflecting the sentiment that the prices are far beyond what many can afford.

Others joked about the situation, with @Stretch™️ humorously stating, “Na the face cap off me pass; the 800h on top,” and @yaronwaziri questioning, “Where are we merching to with these prices?????”

Despite the backlash, some fans defended the prices, suggesting that when converted to dollars, the cost might not seem as exorbitant. However, the general consensus among many remains that the merchandise is out of reach for the average Nigerian, especially for those in the “Lungu” (a slang term for ghetto).

This isn’t the first time Asake has made headlines for his interactions with fans. In a previous report by Legit.ng, Asake gifted his shirt to a female fan who enthusiastically sang along and danced to his performance at a show, showcasing the deep connection he has with his audience. But with these recent merch prices, many wonder if that connection might be strained.
