Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Oyo State, has officially matriculated 574 new students into its 12 National Diploma (ND) programmes during the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony. The event, held at the institution’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, Surulere Local Government Area, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s development.

Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, the Rector of the Polytechnic, highlighted the event as a moment of pride for the institution. In his speech, he commended the new students for their hard work and dedication as they embarked on their academic journey. Dr. Abdul-Hameed also emphasized the Polytechnic’s commitment to providing quality technical and vocational education that aligns with the demands of a dynamic job market.

Since its establishment in March 2021, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede has made notable strides, positioning itself as one of the leading emerging polytechnic institutions in Nigeria. With more than 1,200 students currently enrolled, the Polytechnic has seen the highest enrollment figures among its counterparts. Dr. Abdul-Hameed also shared that 44 students were benefiting from the NELFUND loan scheme, with continued efforts to secure additional funding to support more students in need.

Addressing recent reports of an alleged building collapse at the Polytechnic, the Rector clarified the situation, stating that the claims were false. He explained that what was mistakenly reported as a collapse was a minor structural issue involving a cantilever under construction. He assured the public that the contractor was already addressing the matter under strict supervision, urging everyone to disregard the misinformation.

The Rector also made a passionate appeal to the government for more support, particularly in infrastructure development. He called for special intervention programs to assist with the construction of access roads and to improve the Polytechnic’s overall connectivity. While commending the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its support of education, Dr. Abdul-Hameed urged the Federal Government to increase funding for the development of infrastructure and research at the Polytechnic.
