Federal Government Implements 24-Hour Closure of Third Mainland Bridge for Repair Works

The Federal Government has announced a 24-hour closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic, effective from midnight on Sunday, Feb. 18 to midnight on Monday, Feb 19. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday night, citing the urgent need to address a crucial section of the bridge undergoing comprehensive repairs.

During the closure period, motorists heading towards Oworonshoki will have full access to the bridge, while traffic from Iyana Oworonshoki bound for Lagos Island will be diverted to alternative routes. Kesha urged motorists to cooperate with traffic regulatory officers, use alternative routes, and exercise patience as repair works are carried out on the critical infrastructure.

Alternative routes suggested include Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS, Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter Bridge-CMS, and Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS.

The closure aims to facilitate effective repairs on the identified section of the bridge, ensuring the safety and longevity of the infrastructure. The Federal Government remains committed to providing lasting infrastructures for the comfort and convenience of road users.
