Felix Morka Denies Allegations from Peter Obi, Calls Them Malicious Lies
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vehemently denied allegations made by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, labeling them as “malicious lies” aimed at garnering public sympathy through “emotional blackmail.”
The dispute erupted when Obi claimed on his official X handle that Morka had issued veiled threats against him and his family during a televised interview. According to Obi, Morka’s remarks on Arise TV’s THIS WEEK program suggested severe consequences for the former Anambra State governor following his critical New Year message aimed at the current administration.
In response, Morka quickly dismissed Obi’s accusations, releasing a verbatim transcript of the interview to counter what he called a “patently false and reprehensible” narrative.
During the interview, Morka criticized Obi’s political rhetoric, calling it “irrational” and accusing him of promoting “voodoo economics” and inflammatory statements. Morka acknowledged saying that Obi had “crossed the line” and “has come to him whatever he gets,” but clarified that his comments were directed at Obi’s political actions, not a personal threat.
“Nothing in my statement constitutes or suggests a threat to Mr. Obi or anyone,” Morka emphasized. He further accused Obi of misrepresenting his words to play the victim and incite public outrage against him.
Morka also took the opportunity to criticize Obi for his inconsistent political stance, especially regarding policies that Obi had previously supported but later condemned under the Tinubu administration. These policies include the abolition of fuel subsidies, the unification of the exchange rate, and a focus on boosting production over consumption.
“Obi’s constant flip-flops demonstrate a disturbing lack of principled commitment,” Morka said, pointing out that Obi had promised these very reforms during his presidential campaign. He added that Obi’s changing positions showed a lack of credibility and raised concerns about his leadership abilities.
Morka did not hold back in his criticism of Obi’s supporters, accusing them of organizing online harassment and issuing death threats against those who criticized Obi. He expressed disappointment that Obi had not condemned these actions, suggesting that Obi tacitly approved of the “restless band of online mobs” targeting dissenting voices.
“Obi must think himself to be Nigeria’s sacred cow—beyond reproach and always right,” Morka remarked. He stressed that Nigeria deserves opposition leaders who engage in fact-based critiques rather than manipulative politics.
Morka also hinted at pursuing legal action, stating that Obi’s accusations had severely damaged his reputation and endangered his family’s safety. “By falsely accusing me of threatening his life, Mr. Obi has libeled me in the extreme and incited his followers to issue threats against my family. This is unacceptable,” he warned.
Morka called on Obi to retract his statement and set the record straight, urging him to rein in his supporters. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of accountability and pledged to defend his integrity by all available means.
