Femi Gbajabiamila Advocates Social Media Regulation for National Stability

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has emphasized the urgent necessity of regulating social media to safeguard national stability and unity, cautioning against its detrimental impact on Nigerian society.

Addressing attendees at the launch of a book by Babatunde Fashola, former Minister of Works, Gbajabiamila highlighted the pervasive dissemination of misinformation on social media platforms, which he described as a “societal menace” posing significant risks to the nation’s fabric.

Gbajabiamila underscored the vital role of accurate information in shaping national policies and driving development, emphasizing the need for a regulatory framework to combat the spread of false narratives and divisive content.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to evidence-based discourse and data-driven decision-making, emphasizing the indispensability of accurate data for crafting effective policies conducive to national progress.

The Chief of Staff warned against the ease with which misinformation can propagate globally via social media platforms, urging for measures to mitigate these risks and protect societal cohesion.
