FG Set to Integrate Remita Into Treasury Payment System
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has clarified that the Federal Government has not abandoned Remita as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-approved payment gateway. Instead, Remita will be integrated into the newly launched Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS).
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at OAGF, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. He explained that TMRAS, which became operational on March 4, will incorporate other approved Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) to enhance government revenue collection and remittance processes.
The system aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directives and the vision of Finance Minister Wale Edun to improve treasury revenue assurance and boost budget performance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Federal Government-Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).
According to Mokwa, TMRAS is designed to streamline and coordinate revenue collections and payments, ensuring a more transparent, efficient, and timely analysis of financial transactions. While Remita remains a secure payment channel, the new system will allow multiple CBN-licensed payment service providers to operate.
For at least the next two months, Remita will continue as the sole payment gateway for Federal Government transactions. Meanwhile, the government is working to manage the front-end payment infrastructure and expand the system to accommodate other secure payment platforms.
Mokwa urged all revenue payers to continue using Remita or visit www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for all Federal Government payments.
