FilmOne Entertainment Reveals Nigeria’s 2024 Box Office Performance

FilmOne Entertainment, a prominent Nigerian film production, marketing, and distribution company, has released its 2024 box office scoreboard ahead of the publication of its official yearbook. This scoreboard offers a detailed look at the commercial performance of both Nollywood and Hollywood films in Nigerian cinemas. It highlights the revenue generated by local and international films, offering insights into the overall trends in the Nigerian film industry.

According to the scoreboard, a total of 204 films were released in 2024, with 73 Nollywood titles and 74 Hollywood films. Of these, 15 films surpassed 200 million naira in earnings, while Nollywood films alone generated over 100 million naira each. The combined box office revenue for these films amounted to an impressive 11.58 billion naira. Nollywood films captured 46% of the market share, while Hollywood films led with 52%.

Funke Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa, the latest installment in her popular Jenifa franchise, emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2024. By the end of December 2024, the comedy-drama had earned at least 1.125 billion naira, securing the top spot for the year. This achievement marked a milestone for the film, which went on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, reaching a historic 1.466 billion naira. With this success, Akindele solidified her position as the producer of the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films, including Battle On Buka Street and Omo Ghetto: The Saga.

Other top-performing Nollywood films of 2024 included Queen Lateefah (365 million naira), Ajosepo (257 million naira), Beasts of Two Worlds (253 million naira), Alakada! Bad and Boujee (229 million naira), and Lakatabu (202 million naira). These films contributed to the overall success of Nollywood, showing that local productions are continuing to thrive in Nigerian cinemas.

On the Hollywood side, Deadpool & Wolverine emerged as the highest-grossing film, while Moana 2 led the animation category. FilmOne’s scoreboard also revealed that EbonyLife Cinema was the highest-grossing cinema location in Nigeria. However, FilmOne Entertainment itself remained the highest-grossing film distributor in the country, with its cinemas ranking as the top-grossing cinema chain. In December 2024, FilmOne achieved a significant milestone, recording the highest revenue for a single month across the year, totaling 2.8 billion naira.
