Finance Ministry Launches Anti-Corruption and Transparency Committee
The Federal Ministry of Finance has taken a major step toward ensuring transparency and accountability in the public sector with the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee.
Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, highlighted that the inauguration of the ACTU Committee represents a significant commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service. She emphasized that the fight against corruption is not just the responsibility of the ACTU but requires the collective effort of all Ministry staff.
Jafiya urged everyone to support the initiative, demonstrating a commitment to ethical behavior in all dealings. She assured the Committee of her full support in achieving its objectives, noting that the ACTU is tasked with fostering a culture of transparency and upholding the highest standards of accountability.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), also spoke at the event. He explained that the ACTU initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to combat corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The ACTU Committee will serve as an in-house mechanism for corruption prevention, following global best practices for building strong institutions and enhancing governance.
Dr. Aliyu commended Mrs. Jafiya for her initiative and support in establishing the ACTU Committee, noting that it would play a crucial role in the Ministry’s efforts to manage the nation’s finances openly and transparently.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Egundebi Oluwayemisi, Director of Special Duties, congratulated the new ACTU Committee members. She stressed the importance of active participation from all staff in ensuring the success of the initiative.
The ACTU Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Othman, assured that the Committee would work to sensitize staff and strengthen internal controls, promoting a culture of integrity and accountability in government operations.
Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, described the inauguration of the ACTU Committee as a significant milestone in the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He emphasized that the Committee would play a vital role in promoting ethical conduct and combating corruption within the Ministry.
