Gas Explosion Tragically Takes Lives of Patoranking’s Sister and Brother-in-Law

In a heartbreaking incident, a gas explosion has claimed the lives of Mr. and Mrs. George Onuabuchi in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The explosion, which occurred on August 25, has been confirmed to have been caused by a gas cylinder, not an inverter battery, according to the Ebonyi State Police Command.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Joshua Ukandu provided details on the incident, stating that the tragic event took place in the Waterworks area of Abakaliki. Emergency services were alerted by local residents, but by the time they arrived, the couple had already been taken to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, both Mr. and Mrs. Onuabuchi did not survive. Mrs. Onuabuchi, identified as Chioma, passed away in August, while her husband died in early September.

The police investigation has confirmed that the cause of death was indeed a gas explosion. Ukandu emphasized that the victims’ deaths were not related to an inverter battery, contrary to some initial speculations.

Chioma Onuabuchi was the younger sister of popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking. The loss has been described as a significant tragedy for the family, particularly given that the couple leaves behind a three-year-old son.

A relative of the deceased, who requested anonymity, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The relative shared that the couple was young and that their sudden passing is a profound loss for their family. “They were a young couple with a young child. It’s a great loss for all of us,” the relative said.

The explosion highlights the ongoing issues related to gas safety and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
