Gillian Anderson to Headline Southbank Literature Season with ‘Want’
Gillian Anderson, renowned for her role in “Sex Education,” is poised to lead the Southbank Centre’s season of literature and spoken word in London this autumn. The acclaimed actor will headline a panel discussion centered around her latest book, “Want,” which delves into the complexities of female sexual desire. Joining Anderson will be special guests contributing to the enriching dialogue.
The lineup for Southbank’s literary season boasts a diverse array of talents, including comedian and filmmaker Richard Ayoade, who will delve into mid-century playwright Harauld Hughes, a subject of Ayoade’s memoir. Additionally, former FBI director James Comey will share insights into his new legal thriller “Westport,” while musician Neneh Cherry will discuss her memoir “A Thousand Threads” and “Normal People” author Sally Rooney will also make an appearance.
The season promises an eclectic mix of writers and personalities, with Hari Kunzru presenting his new novel “Blue Ruin,” and contributions from Matt Haig, David McWilliams, and Elizabeth Strout. Notable figures from media and politics, such as broadcaster Carol Vorderman and MP Jess Phillips, will also feature prominently.
Furthermore, the ESEA Lit Fest will celebrate East and South East Asian literature alongside the main event, underscoring the commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the literary world.
Ted Hodgkinson, Head of Literature at the Southbank Centre, expressed excitement for the upcoming season, emphasizing its role in sparking meaningful conversations and offering diverse perspectives. From thought-provoking non-fiction to captivating poetry, the season aims to inspire and inform audiences, fostering dialogue about our modern world.
The season will commence with a creative workshop on April 28 and will run until October 6, providing ample opportunities for audiences to engage with literature in all its forms.
