Good Constitution, Solution To Nigeria’s Problem – Awolowo Dosunmu

The Executive Director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, Dr Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu, has said a good Constitution is the solution to the country’s problem. She explained that the recommendations of the 1989 assembly which brought about the 1989 Constitution, were not allowed to see the light of the day. The webinar was titled ‘A conversation with Dr Awolowo Dosunmu. “The transition programme didn’t materialise, the constitution was never used. I was pained because i was a part of it. I remember that i tried and mounted a spirited campaign, we tried our best, but it didn’t go through.

According to her, a constitution is the bedrock of any country, adding that if the constitution of a country is not appropriate that countrywill continue to move from one problem to another as seen in Nigeria. “Without a constitution that guarantees equity and justice, perception will be the order where people will feel they are being denied and shut out.” Meanwhile on security, she said local security outfits should be allowed to operate freely, while their members should be recruited through traditional rulers who would identify the right people in their domains.
