Gunmen Launch Deadly Assault in Katsina: Mosque Attack, Abductions Rock Villages
In a wave of terror that gripped Katsina State, armed assailants struck multiple targets, including a mosque and residential areas, leaving a trail of death and abductions in their wake.
The most harrowing incident occurred during Ishai prayer at Yargoje village in Kankara Local Government Area, where gunmen stormed a mosque, indiscriminately firing at worshippers. Eyewitnesses described the chaos as gunmen opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to four others, who are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kankara. Additionally, the assailants abducted a man and two women from the village, leaving the community in shock and uncertainty about the fate of the victims.
In the early hours of Thursday, armed men targeted the home of Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member in Ungwar Tudun Boka, Kankara. Although Maikifi managed to escape, his family was not as fortunate, as the attackers abducted his wife and son. Sources suggest that the assailants had been tracking Maikifi for some time, indicating a premeditated attack.
The night of terror continued as gunmen invaded Dangani village in Musawa Local Government Area, firing gunshots and causing panic before abducting an unspecified number of residents. Reports indicate that the attackers targeted a wealthy visitor from the south who was attending a family member’s funeral, further adding to the uncertainty and fear among residents.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the police are yet to issue a statement regarding the attacks, leaving communities anxious and seeking answers in the face of ongoing violence and insecurity.
