Harvey Weinstein Returns to Rikers Island Following Overturned Rape Conviction

Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood film producer, has returned to Rikers Island one day after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned by a New York appeals court. Upon his return, Weinstein is receiving medical attention for his undisclosed medical needs.

According to Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s prison consultant, and Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s representative, the disgraced producer is being attended to by the New York City Department of Corrections and NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services.

The overturning of Weinstein’s conviction comes after a 4-3 decision by the appeals court, which found procedural errors in his trial. Weinstein is expected to return to court on May 1 to address the implications of the overturned conviction.

Despite the overturned conviction, Weinstein is not being released from prison. He still faces charges in California related to sexual assault allegations made by four women. Additionally, in December 2022, Weinstein was found guilty of rape and other sexual misconduct charges, resulting in a 16-year prison sentence.
