Health insurance prevents out-of-pocket payment- Alakija

The Chairman of the Lagos State Health Management Agency Board, Dr. Adetokunbo Alakija, has stressed the importance of the health insurance scheme.

Alakija, during the agency’s customer appreciation event held on Tuesday, said health insurance was vital in ending out-of-pocket payments when people visit hospitals.

“The key takeaway from this event is that health is wealth. There is the need for every Lagosian to have basic healthcare covered. It is cheap, affordable and it helps prevent excess spending by family and friends when they need treatment.

“We are trying to get more people on board and those who have come on board definitely receive good health care at an affordable price and they are well taken care of”, Alakija said.

The General Manager of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba expressed her happiness over the giant strides the state health scheme had recorded within a short time.

She noted that the scheme had a lot more to offer Lagosians as the state strives to ensure every resident has access to quality and affordable health care.

“The taste of the pudding, they say, is in the eating, unless and until you come and enjoy what we are enjoying inside Ilera-Eko, you will not really understand what it can do in your life to improve your quality of life and your family.

“The beauty of social insurance is that we build a very big pool, every body contributes something to it. Of course it is not everyone that will be sick at the same time, but we’ve all contributed to the pool and when aby one of us needs the care, we can take from that pool of money and look after that person”.
