House maid remanded for stealing, attempted kidnap of her boss
A housemaid, Olayemi Laurence, 23, was yesterday remanded in Ilesa prison for allegedly attempting to kidnap her boss, Mrs. Eunice Fateye.
She was also said to have stolen two mobile phones valued N150,000 after breaking into the house of the complainant at 5, Orofon Street, Ilase-Ijesa.
The defendant was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo on five counts bothering on conspiracy , burglary , stealing, attempted arson and attempted kidnap of her boss.
Police Prosecutor, ASP Abiodun Fagboyinbo, also told the court that the defendant stole the victim’s UBA ATM card and used it to withdraw N305,000 from her account and also threatened to set her house ablaze if she (complainant) refused to send N500,000.
He added that “Olayemi attempted to commit felony to wit, Kidnapping of Mrs. Eunice Fateye by sending her series of text messages if she fails to send her N500,000”.
The offence, according to the prosecutor was contrary to and punishable under Sections 410, 390(9), 56(1), and 509 of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State 2002.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
Defence counsel, Nagite Okobe, prayed the court to grant her bail on most liberal term assuring that she has reliable sureties and willing to stand her trial.
