How Simi Overcomes Stage Fright

Nigerian singer and performing artist Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has candidly shared her methods for handling stage fright. The “Joromi” crooner, who has struggled with significant stage anxiety, likens the experience of performing new songs live to “trying on a new pair of shoes that needs adjustments.”

Simi explained that during the initial performances of any new song, she must allow her brain time to bond with the music. This process helps her brain learn to ignore her nervousness, enabling her to perform more confidently.

In a post shared on X, Simi included a clip of herself rehearsing a song from her latest album, “Lost And Found.” She wrote:

“The first few times I have to perform a new song (any song) live on stage is like trying on a new pair of shoes that needs adjustments. I don’t know why that is. Lol. Maybe it’s because I have a history with pretty bad stage fright. Now I have to give my brain time to bond with the song so it can learn to disregard me and my nerves.”

She continued to describe how she overcomes this challenge by rehearsing extensively. She shared her experience from a particular night when she was preparing to perform a new song for the first time:

“Anyway, this night, I kept rehearsing this song (maybe overly so), because it was my first time performing it on stage and, of course, the nerves came. But I have one or two more to go until I get out of the way and my brain takes over lol.”

Simi’s openness about her stage fright and her method of overcoming it highlights the importance of preparation and mental conditioning for artists. By sharing her personal approach, she offers insight and encouragement to others who may face similar challenges in their performances.
