“I ate food from garbage as a child” – Ex-footballer Patrice Evra

Ex-France International, Patrice Evra He was a very successful footballer. So much so that he came to play for several years at Manchester United and Juventus in Turin, among others. Nevertheless, its beginnings were not not simple at all.

“I have sold drugs, I have begged and I have worked in a television store. one is not true”, Evra began during his participation in the game called ‘Two truths and a lie’ in the BBC. “I didn’t sell televisions,” he confirmed seconds later.

According to Evra, his father abandoned him and his 24 siblings when he was a child, so he had to subsist by eating garbage: “Sometimes in the middle of the night, when they throw out the cold ‘Big Macs,’ we’d go pick them up in the trash. Begging in front of the store was normal. After my father left, everything was chaos”.

The Frenchman who worked as a left back assured that football was his salvation: “football saved me. When I was 17 years old I traveled to Italy. I remember that I went into my room. I called my mother and said, ‘This is heaven, people serve us food and we have two forks on one side and two knives on the other.’ That is my best memory.”
