“If I Die, Will You Be Responsible” – Tennis Star Lashes Out at Umpire

Daniil Medvedev.

Medvedev exploded with anger as he took on Italy’s Fabio Fognini at the Olympic Games on Wednesday, claiming that the umpire would be responsible if he were to die due to the conditions.

Tennis’ stars have complained about the conditions they’ve had to play in this summer, and Medvedev was struggling a lot with the heat and humidity on Wednesday. This led to chair umpire Carlos Ramos asking the Russian if he could continue playing.

“I can finish the match but I can die,” Medvedev replied. “If I die, are you going to be responsible?”

Medvedev went on to claim a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win.

Argentine Diego Schwartzman has also expressed his outrage with the conditions this summer.

“It’s difficult to play like this,” Schwartzman said. “I don’t know how hot it’ll be, but it feels like 40 degrees. It’s crazy that they’re sending us to play at midday with over 40 degrees of heat.

“For three people under an air conditioner to decide that we’ve to play like this is crazy. They’re sitting on their armchairs and then they come with sunglasses when the matches are over.

“It was a game to see who could last the longest and he took the advantage with his serves. It seemed like The Walking Dead,” Schwartzman added.
