Iwuanyanwu retires from politics, says Nigeria due for restructuring

A member of the Board of Trustees of Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has announced his resignation from partisan politics.

Iwuanyanwu, a three time presidential aspirant, said this in a statement he signed on Wednesday, ahead of his 79th birthday scheduled to be held on Saturday.

Iwuanyanwu said that he would henceforth play the role of elder statesman and head of the elders’ council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Restructuring the country to ensure devolution of powers to the federating units is a panacea to political stability in Nigeria.

“We need to have strong federating Units and a weak centre so that everybody will leave Abuja and go back to their regions/states and develop the place, people will now pursue opportunities in their respective states and not in Abuja”.
