Josh2Funny Reveals Harassment as Reason for Ending ‘Mama Felicia’ Character
Nigerian comedian and skit maker Chibuike Josh Alfred, known as Josh2Funny, recently opened up about his decision to retire his popular female character, “Mama Felicia,” during an appearance on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast. According to Josh2Funny, the primary reason for abandoning the character was the unwanted advances and harassment he faced from homosexual men.
Josh2Funny shared that the nature of his comedy was intended to be purely entertaining and not to attract any romantic interest. He emphasized that “Mama Felicia” was a comedic persona designed to be humorous and intentionally silly. He was taken aback when some men expressed romantic interest, which he found deeply troubling and embarrassing.
In his own words, Josh2Funny said, “The difference between me and other male content creators playing female characters is that mine was straight comedy. Any gay that would be attracted to me because of the character, is senseless. Because I made sure it was stupid, ‘Mama Felicia’ is a stupid character. It was just stupid.”
Josh2Funny recounted a particularly distressing experience where a man contacted him on WhatsApp to declare his affection. This led to a heated response from Josh, where he threatened to pray for the man to go blind. He described the ongoing harassment as one of the main reasons for leaving the “Mama Felicia” role and transitioning to his current character, “Brother Zakius.” This new persona allows him to avoid the issues he encountered while playing a female character.
He expressed his desire to focus on making people laugh without facing such uncomfortable situations. The shift from “Mama Felicia” to “Brother Zakius” represents a change in both his comedic approach and personal comfort, as he now performs in male attire rather than female costumes.
Josh2Funny’s candid remarks provide insight into the challenges he faced and underscore the difficulties some entertainers encounter while balancing their creative personas with personal boundaries.
