Jumabee Compares Balancing Music and Politics to Marrying Two Wives
In a recent interview, Nigerian musician and politician Juwon Olorunnipa, popularly known as Jumabee, likened his dual career to “marrying two wives,” emphasizing the difficulty of juggling both entertainment and governance.
Jumabee, a native of Kogi State, acknowledged the immense demands of both fields, admitting that one often has to take a backseat. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to both passions, ensuring that neither is completely abandoned.
His latest album, Son of Margaret (SOM), is a deeply personal project that narrates his life journey. The album features collaborations with both rising stars and established artists, making it his most heartfelt work to date.
Beyond music, Jumabee is dedicated to changing the narrative about Kogi State. He urged Nigerians to see beyond stereotypes, highlighting the state’s vast resources and strides in youth and gender inclusivity. He also addressed the shift in Nigeria’s music scene, noting how social media has decentralised opportunities, allowing artists to gain recognition beyond Lagos.
As he gears up for an international tour promoting SOM, Jumabee remains steadfast in his dual commitment. He proves that while balancing two demanding careers is tough, passion and purpose can thrive together—even if it sometimes feels like managing “two jealous wives.”
