Kaduna Catholic priest kidnapped, cook killed, invaders steal N2m cash

The Catholic Priest of St. Monica Ikulu Pari Parish, Chawai Chiefdom, in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Rev. Fr. Joseph Shekari, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

His cook, Sati Musa was reportedly shot dead by the gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The Paramount Chief Chawai, Alhaji Yahaha Mohammed, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said he learnt about it from a district head.

He said, “I can authoritatively confirm that the abductors stormed the residence of the cleric with sophisticated weapons around 12.45am. I am calling on all security agencies to swing into action to ensure the safe return of the cleric.

“Even though we have yet to establish any contact with the abductors, we are confident he will return safe and sound”.

An eye witness, Mr Yohanna Madaki, who described the incident as “sad and devastating” noted that the abductors also went away with the sum of N2m that was realized from a thanksgiving service, and other valuables.

The cook that was shut dead was a student of the Government Secondary School, Kizakoro.
