Kaduna Government Distributes 7,000 Motorcycles to Civil Servants

The Kaduna State Government has distributed 7,000 motorcycles, including 4,000 electric bikes, to civil servants as part of an initiative to reduce transportation costs and improve workers’ welfare. Launched by Governor Uba Sani, the program is the first of its kind in Nigeria, aiming to provide affordable transport options through a salary-deductible loan scheme.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Kaduna on Friday, the governor, represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, emphasized the importance of supporting civil servants, who are essential to the state’s governance and service delivery. “Transportation costs can be a significant burden for civil servants. We hope these motorcycles will ease that burden, allowing workers to be punctual and focus on their duties,” he said. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving workplace infrastructure and conditions.

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Paynacle Digital Services Limited, and Optimus Bank. Kaduna State NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Magaji, commended Governor Sani for ensuring financial backing for the project, allowing civil servants to access motorcycles through structured repayment plans. “By making these motorcycles available through salary-deductible loans, the governor has shown great commitment to workers’ welfare,” he stated.

In addition to the motorcycle distribution, the Acting State Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Hassan Ibrahim, announced that the union had purchased 1,000 electric tricycles for its members, to be paid for over two years. He urged the Kaduna State Government to support this effort to ensure its sustainability.

For many civil servants, this initiative represents a significant improvement in their daily lives. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Sarah Musa from the Ministry of Education, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This motorcycle will really help me. I used to spend a lot on transportation, but now I can use that money for other important things.”

By providing affordable transportation, the Kaduna State Government is taking a crucial step in enhancing the welfare of its workforce and ensuring they have the necessary support to perform their duties effectively.
