Kano Government Approves ₦33.45bn for Key Development Projects
The Kano State Executive Council has approved ₦33.45 billion for various development projects across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, highlighted some of the key allocations. These include ₦426.42 million for nine months’ allowances of 2,369 street sweepers under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and ₦109.07 million for the procurement and distribution of UTME/JAMB forms, along with candidate screening, registration, and training under the Ministry of Education.
The council also approved ₦284.12 million for constructing a Model Primary Health Centre at Rimin Zakara in Ungogo LGA under the Ministry of Health. Other projects include ₦434.34 million for repairs and renovations at Government Girls Secondary School, Shekara, and ₦893.11 million for refurbishing First Lady’s College, Magwan.
Additionally, ₦90.73 million was allocated for constructing eight semi-detached two-bedroom houses, a gatehouse, and a perimeter fence renovation at Government House. A total of ₦6.6 billion was approved for 2025 State Constituency Projects, while ₦256.65 million was set aside for ongoing renovations at the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Further approvals included ₦160 million for acquiring property at Ja’en Quarters, Gwale LGA, to be converted into a public school and ₦378 million for nine Toyota Hilux vehicles for project monitoring in the three senatorial districts. Also, ₦9.76 billion was earmarked for constructing rural roads and rehabilitating roads under Phase II of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.
Other major allocations include ₦5.28 billion for rehabilitating Sharada Road and ₦3.42 billion for upgrading Murtala Mohammed Way. Moreover, ₦5.22 billion was approved for constructing 1,000 two-bedroom houses for free distribution to flood victims.
The council also sanctioned ₦135.25 million to improve accommodations for 2,500 intending pilgrims at the Holy Land. Additionally, it approved splitting the Ministry of Works and Housing into two separate ministries to enhance efficiency in infrastructure and housing development.
Waiya further announced that 2,000 members of the Kano State Vigilance Group would receive training, and 6,000 members would be provided with uniforms. The council also approved the buy-back of 324 houses in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo Mega Cities from pension trustees, enabling resale to interested buyers.
Other key approvals included the procurement of food items for Ramadan feeding programmes, engaging a consulting firm for the completion of hydroelectric projects at Challawa and Tiga, and reviewing a report on the End-Bad Governance Protest of August 2024.
Governor Abba Yusuf also signed three bills into law: the Kano State Metropolitan Transport Agency Bill, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Bill, and the Security-Watch Neighbourhood Law.
Additionally, the governor received six awards from various MDAs and NGOs in recognition of his administration’s commitment to development. He also presented awards to the top three winners of the 9th Edition of the 44 Young Kano State Scientists Competition.
Waiya assured residents that the government remains focused on infrastructure development, economic growth, and social welfare, pledging that decisions will continue to be made for the benefit of Kano’s citizens.
