Katsina to enact law on compulsory genotype tests for intending couples

Katsina State Government plans to enact a law that mandates intending couples to go for genotype tests.

The Acting Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, disclosed this when he received the members of People Living With Sickle Cell on a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday in Katsina.

“There is a need to sensitise the public through enlightenment campaign in all nooks and corners of the state about the disease,” he said.

The SSG urged medical researchers to conduct more research on getting a cure for sickle cell.

He said the state government will also mobilise traditional and religious leaders for the campaign.

Earlier, the President of the Association of Sickle Cell Home’ Katsina Chapter, Hajiya Laila Ahmed Rufa’i said that they were at the office of the SSG to solicit the support of the state government on the campaign for the prevention of sickle cell disease which is very rampant in the country.
