Kehinde Bankole Speaks Out on Nudity and Kissing in Film: Context Matters
Actress Kehinde Bankole has recently shared her views on the role of nudity and kissing in films, emphasizing that these elements are not always necessary for a powerful narrative. In an insightful interview on the YouTube podcast ‘Duke Rants,’ Kehinde discussed how nudity should be included thoughtfully and with a clear purpose.
Kehinde explained that context plays a crucial role in how nudity is perceived. She believes that when done intelligently, nudity can be portrayed in a non-sensual way that aligns with the story. “The key word is intelligent,” she stated. “There are instances where you see nudity, but it’s not perceived as sensual because of the context.”
The actress also pointed out that excessive kissing and nudity are not prerequisites for telling a good story. She used the example of a scene featuring a married couple, noting that it is unnecessary to depict a sexual act to establish their relationship. “For example, if a couple has been married for 10 years, you don’t need to start the scene by showing them in a sexual act,” Kehinde explained.
Kehinde’s perspective challenges the common notion that explicit content is essential for engaging storytelling. She advocates for a more nuanced approach, where the inclusion of such elements is based on their artistic necessity rather than a perceived requirement. This viewpoint underscores the importance of narrative context over sensationalism in filmmaking.
When asked about her personal comfort with performing nude scenes, Kehinde expressed unease with the question, citing the risk of her response being misunderstood. “I don’t like that question because the answer would always be taken out of context,” she said. However, she clarified that she is open to performing what is required artistically, but prefers not to delve into specifics.
Kehinde Bankole’s comments reflect a broader conversation within the film industry about the role of explicit content in storytelling. Her emphasis on intelligent and context-driven choices highlights a growing trend towards more thoughtful and purposeful filmmaking.
The actress has also been in the news for other projects, including her recent role in a film about Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, which she has said inspired a new movement in her career. She continues to make headlines not only for her acting but also for her views on the evolving landscape of cinema.
