Kenneth Okonkwo Slams President Tinubu Over New Presidential Jet Purchase

Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has sparked controversy with his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to purchase a new presidential jet. Okonkwo, known for his outspoken views, took to Instagram on August 19, 2024, to express his discontent with the acquisition, highlighting the stark contrast between the nation’s economic struggles and the opulence of a new presidential aircraft.

In his Instagram post, Okonkwo shared a photo of President Tinubu alongside images of the new private jets, condemning the purchase. His critique centers on the perceived insensitivity of the decision, given the severe economic challenges facing Nigeria. He wrote:

“People are dying of hunger. No food, no fuel, no finance, no electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. This is the height of insensitivity.”

Okonkwo’s comments have resonated with many Nigerians, who voiced their frustrations in the comments section. Responses ranged from personal grievances about the cost of living to broader criticisms of the political leadership:

President Tinubu’s new Airbus A330 replaces the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that was acquired during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. The timing of this acquisition, amid ongoing economic difficulties and public discontent, has intensified criticism and scrutiny of the administration’s priorities.
