Labour Party Factional Spokesman Calls Kenneth Okonkwo’s Exit a Relief
The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has described the resignation of Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo from the party as a “good riddance to bad rubbish” and a welcome development.
Okonkwo announced his resignation from the party on Tuesday, citing concerns that the Labour Party was not prepared for the 2027 elections. However, speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Arabambi dismissed Okonkwo’s departure as insignificant, insisting that the party remains strong and focused on unseating the Bola Tinubu administration in the next election.
“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well. His resignation is no loss to the party, and he should move on instead of speaking about Labour Party affairs,” Arabambi stated.
He dismissed claims of internal crisis within the party, saying that Labour Party remains intact despite ongoing political speculations. He further alleged that Okonkwo had been working with the ruling party all along and was never truly loyal to Labour Party’s cause.
“Kenneth Okonkwo has been aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has supported President Tinubu in the past. He worked against Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections. We have no concerns about his exit, and we will meet again in 2027,” Arabambi claimed.
He added that Labour Party would not tolerate “political rascality” ahead of the next elections, emphasizing that the party leadership was taking proactive steps to eliminate disloyal members.
“In 2027, we will not allow political distractions within our ranks. The National Chairman is currently leading a reconciliatory effort, which is making some people uneasy,” he added.
