Laide Bakare Urges Women to Prioritize Having Children Over Marriage
Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has advised career-driven women to consider having children early to ensure long-term professional success. In an interview with Nollywood On Radio, the actress shared her unconventional thoughts on the balance between family and career, encouraging young women to focus on starting a family rather than rushing into marriage.
Drawing from her own personal experience, Laide explained that when she had her first child, her focus was on having a baby rather than marriage. “If you are aspiring to be a superstar and successful in your career as a young girl, I would advise you to start having kids early. That way, you can have the rest of your life to concentrate on your career while still having a family,” she explained.
Laide emphasized that her advice was not necessarily about getting married early, but about starting a family. “I know that getting married early could lead to divorce, so I’m not saying you must marry. It’s about having your kids. At the time I had my first child, I never thought about marriage. I just wanted a baby,” she added.
Her comments have stirred conversations, especially after a misunderstanding with her colleague, Eniola Badmus. Laide clarified that her remarks were not aimed at Eniola, as had been rumored. “Recently, Eniola and I talked about our past quarrel, and she said I called her childless. I explained that I only meant starting a family, not necessarily getting married. It’s about having kids,” Laide clarified.
