LP Rejects Enugu State Governorship Elections That Declared Mbah the Winner

The Enugu State Chapter of the Labour Party has rejected the results of Saturday’s governorship election that produced the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Mbah as the winner.

The ruling party in the state won Aninri, Ezeagu, Uzo-Uwani and Udi local government areas while the Labour Party took Igbo-Etiti, Igboeze North, Isi-Uzo and Oji River LGAs.

Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the 2023 governorship election in Enugu State. He polled 160,895 votes to defeat other candidates. The LP candidate, Chijioke Edeoga scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Uche Nnaji, was fourth, with 14,575 votes.

Reacting, the LP said it would not accept the results, arguing that the 18 March governorship election was marred by “widespread and wholesale rigging, intimidation of voters, doctoring, mutilation and manipulation of the results.”
