Macklemore’s New Song Supports Pro-Palestinian Protests, Criticizes Biden and Police

Rapper Macklemore has released a new song in support of pro-Palestinian student protests, wherein he criticizes President Joe Biden, the police, and the music industry. The song, titled “Hind’s Hall,” praises college students across the US who are protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza and declares Macklemore’s intention not to vote for President Biden in the upcoming election. Macklemore becomes one of the first major music artists to explicitly condemn the US government’s support of Israel and commend students protesting their universities’ financial ties to companies associated with Israel.

The song also takes aim at the police response to these protests on college campuses, highlighting instances where law enforcement used force against demonstrators. Across the country, pro-Palestinian protesters have been occupying spaces on campuses and calling for their universities to divest from Israel, resulting in thousands of arrests.

“Hind’s Hall,” named after a Palestinian child who tragically died during the conflict, calls attention to the human cost of the war in Gaza, referencing the thousands of children who have lost their lives. Macklemore accuses the music industry of complicity in maintaining silence on the issue and pledges to donate proceeds from the song to support Palestinian refugees through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

Macklemore has been vocal in his support for Palestinians since last year, expressing solidarity with those affected by the conflict and advocating for a ceasefire. Despite facing accusations of antisemitism in the past, Macklemore continues to use his platform to address political issues, much like his previous advocacy for LGBTQ rights and opposition to former President Donald Trump.
