Makinde Honours New Alaafin of Oyo with Certificate and Staff of Office

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially presented the certificate and staff of office to Oba Abimbola Owoade, formally recognizing him as the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo. The ceremony took place on Monday at the Oyo State Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, with a host of dignitaries in attendance. Among the notable guests were the Oyomesi (kingmakers), senior government officials, and distinguished personalities from various sectors.

Oba Owoade’s appointment follows the announcement made last Friday, confirming him as the Alaafin-elect. He succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away two years ago. With this formal presentation, Oba Owoade becomes the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, continuing the storied and respected royal lineage of the Oyo Empire.

Governor Makinde’s gesture marks a significant milestone in the history of Oyo, as the new monarch steps into his leadership role, tasked with preserving the cultural and historical legacy of the ancient kingdom.
