Manchester City seals Premier League Win with Arsenal Defeat at Nottingham

Manchester City have been crowned champions for the third season in a row after Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday evening.

Arsenal have pushed Pep Guardiola’s side for much of the season but have run out of steam in recent weeks as the champions have just got better and better. Manchester City already knew that a win over Chelsea on Sunday would have captured their fifth title in six years but their rival’s defeat to Nottingham Forest means Frank Lampard’s side will be performing a guard of honor ahead of kick off at the Etihad Stadium.

As well as crowning the champions, Forest’s win also secured that they will remain in the Premier League for a second season. Taiwo Awoniyi continued his impressive recent form, notching a goal in the 19th minute and despite dominating possession throughout Mikel Arteta’s team didn’t really threaten to score.

Manchester City have matched local rivals Manchester United as only the second team to win the league in three successive years in the Premier League era.

If Manchester City can beat United in the FA Cup final and Inter Milan in the Champions League final in the next three weeks then they’ll be only the second English team in history to win the Treble.
