Matthew Perry’s Stepfather Reflects on the “Friends” Star’s Battle with Addiction

CNN — Keith Morrison, journalist and stepfather of Matthew Perry, recently shared insights into the late “Friends” star’s struggles with addiction on Hoda Kotb’s podcast “Making Space,” shedding light on Perry’s emotional journey prior to his death at 54.

Morrison candidly expressed that the pain of losing Perry remains constant, stating, “It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time.” Despite Perry’s seemingly positive emotional state leading up to his passing, Morrison lamented the unfairness of Perry not being able to experience his “third act.”

Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom, had been vocal about his battles with substance abuse. Morrison revealed Perry’s belief that he was overcoming his addiction, although Perry himself acknowledged the relentless nature of the struggle.

Reflecting on their relationship, Morrison emphasized his supportive role in Perry’s life, affirming, “I never tried to replace his dad, but I was there for him and he knew it.”

Morrison’s revelations echo sentiments shared by Perry’s “Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston, who disclosed exchanging texts with Perry shortly before his passing, describing him as “happy and healthy” at the time.
