Mayella’s Album ‘Mayowale’ Inspired by True Life Stories

Nigerian singer Oluwamayowa Ajibola, known by his stage name Mayella, has unveiled that his newly released Extended Play (EP) album, titled “Mayowale,” is deeply rooted in true life stories. In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Mayella shared that the songs on the EP draw inspiration from real-life events and experiences. He explained that the title “Mayowale,” which translates to “bring joy home” in Yoruba, reflects his lifelong role as a source of joy and inspiration to those around him.

Discussing his musical journey, Mayella recounted, “Music started for me in the church as a drummer. My mum was in the choir, while my dad was the band leader. So, music started for me from the family. I decided to take music seriously while in secondary school. Some of my friends and I used to do freestyles back then. We even had a group called, The Fish Guys.”

However, Mayella also touched on the challenges faced by emerging artists, particularly when attempting to collaborate with established musicians. He shared, “It is very difficult collaborating with established artistes. I had an experience with one that I had already paid. He checked my Instagram account and demanded that I should pay more money for him to collaborate with me. He said that what I paid him initially was too small.”
