Mo Abudu: Elevating African Content from Blockbusters to Boardroom
Media entrepreneur and CEO of EbonyLife Media, Mo Abudu, has been appointed to the board of directors of the International Emmys, a prestigious organization celebrating excellence in global television programming.
Abudu expressed her honor at the appointment and highlighted her commitment to elevating Africa’s creative economy by advocating for increased representation of African productions and talent on the global stage.
As the head of EbonyLife Media, Abudu has overseen the production of high-grossing Nollywood blockbusters and secured collaborations with international platforms like Netflix, Sony, and the BBC.
She is known for championing African storytelling, evident in projects like Blood Sisters, Netflix’s first Nigerian Original series, and her adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s play, Elesin Oba, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Abudu is also recognized for her advocacy for inclusion, as seen in her partnership with Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures to empower talent from Africa and the Diaspora.
Her achievements extend beyond media, as she is an Executive Fellow of the Harvard Business School and the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University.
Recently named Forbes Africa’s Business Woman of the Year, Abudu continues to solidify her position as a content powerhouse with projects like Wrath and Revenge and Oloture: The Journey, both slated for release on Netflix.
She has also wrapped up production on Baby Farm, a drama series exploring the dark side of a reputable NGO, and is set to commence production on Dust to Dreams, a project co-written with Idris Elba and featuring iconic musician Seal.
