Mohamed Fall Appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria
The United Nations has announced the appointment of Mohamed Fall, a Senegalese national, as the new Resident Coordinator in Nigeria. In addition to this role, Fall will also serve as the Humanitarian Coordinator in the country, marking a significant step in the UN’s efforts to enhance its presence and effectiveness in Nigeria.
Assuming his position in February, Fall brings with him over two decades of extensive experience in development, humanitarian, and peacebuilding endeavors. His previous roles include serving as the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, where he provided strategic oversight and guidance to 21 UNICEF Country Offices.
Throughout his career, Fall has been actively involved in formulating and implementing Country Programme Documents, contributing to the UN Reform process, and engaging with regional bodies such as the African Union and the private sector. He has demonstrated leadership in responding to complex humanitarian crises characterized by significant needs and security challenges, showcasing his capacity to navigate demanding operational environments effectively.
Fall’s tenure as UNICEF representative in various countries, including Nigeria, the Central African Republic, and Mongolia, underscores his commitment to advancing children’s rights and well-being across diverse contexts. His expertise as a Senior Education Adviser and Chief of Education in multiple nations further highlights his dedication to promoting access to quality education, a fundamental component of sustainable development.
