Mohbad: Yoruba group assembles lawyers, offers free legal service

The Yoruba Council Worldwide, on Monday, said it had assembled a team of lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to assist the family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, and to ensure that all steps taken were done in accordance with the rule of law and standard practices.

The President of the council, Oladotun Hassan, made the development known during a press conference held in Abuja on Monday.

The PUNCH reports that there has been a controversy over the cause of Mohbad’s death, who died on September 12, at age 27, under circumstances yet to be ascertained.

Also, following an order by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, instituted a panel of inquiry to investigate the circumstances leading to the late singer’s death.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command revealed that an autopsy had been conducted on Mohbad’s corpse, and is expecting the result of the autopsy conducted by pathologists following the exhumation of the corpse last Thursday.

Speaking about the development at the press conference on Monday, Hassan said, “The Yoruba Council Worldwide has raised a team of lawyers to provide free legal services to the family of late musical talent, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad. We hereby register our heartfelt condolences and commiserate with his family, fans and all his admirers on his painful exit on September 12, 2023, from this terrestrial world under excruciating pains, depression, suppression, harassment, intimidation, bullying, aggravated premeditated murder and suspicious circumstances.

“We are deeply pained and saddened by the untimely demise of the late superstar, the highly talented Yoruba-born musician who was immensely blessed and extraordinarily gifted with aesthetic musical excellence that was embellished with glitz, glamour and boundless energy while alive, yet he foresaw his death. It is extremely painful and sad to see his short-lived sojourn on earth; brief, painful, sudden and mysterious, but as they say, it is not how far, but how well in life, then, with a short sojourn in life, it could be unarguably agreed that he bestrode the music world like a colossus and shone more colourfully and exceptionally as a rare megastar with uncommon mission and unassuming philosophy.”
