Mr Macaroni Shares Harrowing Experience That Transformed His Fearlessness
Nigerian content creator and activist Adebowale Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has opened up about a traumatic experience that led him to become fearless. In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, he discussed the events surrounding his arrest during a protest against the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate, which followed the tragic #EndSARS protests in 2020.
Mr Macaroni was apprehended by Nigerian police while protesting the reopening of the tollgate, a highly contentious issue for many Nigerian youths. Reflecting on his time in police custody, he revealed how the brutal treatment he received solidified his determination to advocate for the oppressed. He described being stripped naked and molested by officers who seemed to take pleasure in his suffering.
He stated, “I feel I should be involved because God has given me the platform today, not to be popular, but so that I can use the platform to speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves. How can I ask others to make sacrifices that I am not willing to make?”
Mr Macaroni emphasized that the experience removed all fear from him: “All the fear in me disappeared after that experience. It was after these guys tortured me, and I saw the hate in their eyes and how angry they were.” He admitted that while he created a skit about the incident, it couldn’t fully capture the depth of his ordeal. “I was completely naked. They stripped us naked, and I was molested. They were happy and mentioning names, saying I was disturbing some people,” he recounted.
This harrowing account highlights Mr Macaroni’s transformation into a fearless advocate for justice and his commitment to using his platform to speak out against oppression and violence.
