Mr Macaroni Slams Lack of Accountability in Nigeria

Nigerian comedian and activist Mr Macaroni has strongly criticized the country’s governance, expressing frustration over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a post on X on March 7, 2025, he decried the widespread impunity in Nigeria, arguing that the absence of consequences for wrongdoing allows corruption to thrive.

According to him, the key difference between Nigeria and other nations is accountability. “It’s not as if these countries that we call ‘saner climes’ are not corrupt oo. The difference between these countries and Nigeria is the sense of accountability at the very least. In Nigeria, there is no regard for law and order,” he stated.

Mr Macaroni further highlighted how power and wealth shield individuals from justice, calling out abuses in the legislature and security forces. “From the impunity in the Senate to the shamelessness and abuse of power by security agents, to the total lack of regard for the Nigerian people, everyone is free to act as irresponsibly as they wish so far they have power or money. The real problem we have is the zero consequence for actions.”

His remarks follow the controversial suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. Her suspension has sparked national debate over fairness, women’s representation in politics, and justice for victims of harassment.

As part of the suspension, Senator Natasha has been barred from the National Assembly premises, had her salary and that of her aides withheld, and is prohibited from representing Nigeria in any official capacity. While the Senate hinted at a possible review if she tenders a written apology, her suspension was upheld after a voice vote led by Senate President Akpabio.

Mr Macaroni’s statements reflect growing concerns over governance in Nigeria, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability in leadership.
