NAFDAC Seizes Large Stockpile of Fake Cocodamol and GSK Ampiclox in Lagos
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a massive stockpile of fake and unregistered drugs in Idumota, Lagos, as part of its crackdown on the illegal pharmaceutical trade.
In a statement released on its official X account on Monday, NAFDAC revealed that large consignments of counterfeit Cocodamol and GSK Ampiclox were discovered and swiftly removed. The agency emphasized that these fake medications posed serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.
NAFDAC also uncovered Benxhexol-5 tablets, which were found packaged in plastic sachets, likely intended for illegal repackaging with fake registration numbers. The agency assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and authenticity of drugs available in Nigerian markets.
This development comes amid increased efforts by regulatory bodies to clamp down on the distribution of counterfeit pharmaceuticals across the country. Experts have consistently warned about the dangers of consuming unverified medications, which can lead to severe health complications or even death.
Consumers are urged to be vigilant when purchasing medications and to verify NAFDAC registration numbers before use. The agency has reiterated its commitment to bringing those involved in the illegal drug trade to justice.
